Private Temple
There's a gentle stirring
in my heart today
As I hear Him say, Seek My face
And my soul is is restless 'til I've made my mind
I will seek to find a quiet place
So close the door, it's just me and my Lord
And there's just one thing left to do
I will meet my Maker, I will bend my knee
In this private temple built for two
There's a silent whisper
in my soul just now
And I know somehow He helps me hear
That the Spirit's calling me to spend some time
When I seek I find that He is near
So close the door, it's just me and my Lord
And there's just one thing left to do
I will meet my Maker, I will bend my knee
In this private temple built for two

STORY BEHIND THIS SONG...
On Christian Prayer
(Read Matthew 6:5-8)
"But you, when you pray, go into your inner room,
and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who
is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will repay
you."
A few things to notice here:
First of all, Jesus says "when you
pray"....not if you ever get around to praying. God
is calling each of us to come away to a lonely place and
spend some time with Him.
Second, while corporate prayer is good,
too, we all need to get alone with God. This song has been
a great help to me. I can never sing it without hearing
that still small voice of God whispering in my own heart,
"Karl, have you become too busy to seek My face again?"
Third, never use prayer (or any expression
of devotion for that matter) as a way to win the favor of
men. If anyone is going to pat you on the back, let it be
God.
Let me be the first to admit my own inadequate
prayer life (lest I become a hypocrite myself). We press
on.
